It appears that the deputy leader of the Labour Party, Toni Abela, is hell-bent on defying the Attorney General in regard to the meaning and implications of ‘perverting the course of justice’. Abela has now been reported to have been implicated in yet another serious incident involving the alleged use of drugs by someone in a Labour Party club and which, in his considered opinion, he decided to smother rather than report to the police for action.
Moreover, as a true soldier of steel, he stated that his leader, Joseph Muscat, was unaware of the incident and Muscat promptly concurred. Unfortunately for both it has now been reported that Muscat was well aware of the cover-up.
In view of star candidate, criminal lawyer Manwel Mallia’s considered opinion, that the first gaffe by Abela was “a storm in a tea cup”, perhaps this second gaffe may be considered by Mallia to qualify as ‘a storm in a cereal bowl’.
And the Attorney General may now take up the gauntlet.
All this destroys beyond repair the credibility of Abela, Muscat and Mallia and the honourable thing for them is to step dow for the sake of clean politics.
