Once again the raw natural beauty of St Thomas Bay is the target of businessmen who aim to develop it into a caravan park complete with pool, snack bar, parking space, storage, a cesspit and a gated entrance.
Referring to it as “just bare land.... with random vegetation” the applicants are insisting that there is a demand for such a project since the site is already illegally used for caravans. Some years ago an application for the construction of a five-star hotel with full amenities at this site had been refused by the authorities after more than 10,000 people signed a petition to protect this area from such development.
I hope the public still has such respect for the environment and will once again oppose the ruin of one of the last remaining unbuilt areas in Malta.
