In Britain, efforts have been made to impose ID cards on people but these have always been frustrated simply because the Nazis used these records to identify, round up, deport and kill anyone on their hit list.

Yet, the dreadful present UK government is planning to issue ID cards to EU residents in the UK so they could be more easily deported once the UK leaves the EU.

My advice is never to allow a ‘J’ or an ‘X’ or any other letter suggest to anyone you live within a category of society that future Fascist governments would exploit.

Human Rights and Integration director Silvan Agius warned that travel to certain places was at one’s own risk in the case of those who opt for a gender-neutral ‘X’ marker on their passport. Such places cover both EU and non-EU countries and I agree with him.

If you have already had an ‘X’ marked in your passport – or, indeed, on any other official document – then have it removed.

If you are thinking about it, in time you might well be authorising your own death warrant. We live in increasingly troubled times where the rise of Fascism is threatening democracy across the world.

Let’s do nothing to expose ourselves. Instead, let’s live a peaceful and happy life and enjoy our right to be ourselves.

Not, however, at the expense of placing ourselves in any kind of danger. Some deranged Fascist airport official might queryour passport details, sending us to a detention centre for“further processing”.
