Valletta Subbuteo Club made it to the final of the prestigious Major of England tournament, played in Enderby, on the outskirts of Leicester, earlier this month. However, the Maltese team were beaten in the gold medal match by Spain’s Tiburones FM who prevailed by the narrowest of margins as only one goal separated the two teams at the buzzer. Valletta players Samuel Bartolo and Mario Camilleri also reached the finals in the Open and Masters but both were outsmarted by Massimiliano Nastasi (Italy) and Antonio Montano (Spain) for the respective titles. There was some consolation for Maltese players in Enderby though when Juergen Balzan, who plays for Black and Blue Pisa, won the U-15 competition.
