A young driver who, the court noted, had “no fear of the law or its consequences”, was jailed for two months for driving without a licence and insurance.

Matthew Zarb, 26, from Birkirkara, was caught on March 1 in his hometown driving a Mercedes bearing licence plates of another car and the licence disc taken from another.

Magistrate Francesco Depasquale found him guilty of driving without a licence and insurance, using licence plates and a disc belonging to different cars.

In considering the circumstances of the case the magistrate noted that Mr Zarb was a relapser and jailed him for two months.
