Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi yesterday instructed Air Malta chairman Louis Farrugia to also stop the entitlement of free flights to past and present presidents and prime ministers.

His announcement comes a day after it was officially revealed that former Air Malta chairmen, board members and both serving and retired politicians (with the exception of presidents and prime ministers) would no longer be entitled to free flights as of July 1.

During the top management’s first face-to-face meeting with employees at the Dolmen Hotel on Friday evening, it was, however, made clear that airline staff will continue to benefit from discounted air fares.
