I was astonished to read in this newspaper that “During the divorce debate, the Church had campaigned all out against before it was introduced following a referendum held in May 2011”.
As far as I know, there had been no “crusade”. Not even the type wanted by Christ Himself in favour of His laws. In fact, the Church in Malta had, unfortunately, stated at the time that there would have been no “crusades”.
Likewise, I was astonished to read: “The Church is hardly in a position to start another crusade.”
I believe we would be wise to hold that God’s laws are still what they were yesterday and centuries ago. People may go against them, as they have done since Adam’s time. But, before God, will it be to their benefit? Absolutely not!
For no imaginable reason would I ever dare attempt to change one single ‘iota’ of the dictates of history!
I still remember that, in those days before the divorce referendum, many priests and good Catholics in Gozo were quite perturbed at the idea of crusades, even those wanted by Christ Himself in defence of His religion.
