Bus engines will be switched off during lunchtime on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, under agreement between Arriva, Transport Malta and the General Workers’ Union.

There will be no bus service between noon and 3.30 p.m. on both days.

The GWU’s maritime and aviation section said it was “satisfied that all Arriva employees will be able to spend time with their families” on both days.

The section last week expressed concern at the lack of agreement on the issue, which was resolved when Arriva managing director Keith Bastow informed the GWU that the company and Transport Malta had accepted the request.
