A Jordanian man was yesterday remanded in custody after he denied trying to defraud a liquor store of about €250,000 and defrauding a similar outlet of some €20,000.

Abdallah Nawafleh, 39, from Gżira, who owns the shop Seven Eleven, allegedly attempted to defraud the Charles Grech chain and was allegedly successful in conning the Red October store in Qormi on and before July 4.

He pleaded not guilty and Police Inspector Ian Abdilla asked Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit to deny bail because of possible tampering with evidence.
