That a Labour stalwart like Eddy Privitera should express shock at the proposal for building a hotel on the Mellieħa sandy coast really means that this mania for building anywhere and everywhere has reached its zenith, to be deplored by all and sundry.

How can anyone even conceive the idea of a hotel which would disturb the coastal nature both on the shore and in the sea, obliterate the views from the Ċirkewwwa/Armier areas and from the coast road as well as deprive people of public swimming area?

Visitors to Malta are disappointed at how limited our sandy beaches are but there we go happily slicing off yet another section of sandy seashore. Soon all we will be able to offer tourists is hotels, hotels, hotels! Doesn’t anyone worry that the hotels will be empty when there will be no Malta left for people to enjoy?

Besides, while I am at my laptop, may I ask who do we owe thanks to for creating a high wall all along the new coast road from Pembroke to Salina obliterating the view of the sea, the coast and such national treasures as Qalet Marku Tower?
