Nadur Youngsters beat fellow Division One team SK Victoria Wanderers 4-3 in a tense BOV Gozo FA Cup preliminary round match last weekend at the Sannat Ground.

As the scoreline indicates, this was an eventful tie that produced goalmouth action at both ends, three sendings-off and a decisive penalty goal in extra-time.

This was Nadur’s third win over SK Victoria Wanderers this season as they have already beaten them in the final of the Independence Cup and in a league match.

The Wanderers surprised Nadur after opening a deserved two-goal lead following goals from Edinson Sanchez Estrada (2) and Eric Nwankwo (28).

Victoria could have also added to their tally but for the saves of Nadur goalkeeper Mark Grima.

Then, just before half-time, the Youngsters pulled one back through Anthony Portelli and two minutes after the restart it was all-square again when Claudio Antunes headed past the Wanderers keeper to make it 2-2.

However, Nadur suffered a double blow midway through the second half as they ended up playing with nine players following the dismissals of Charles Hili and An-tunes for double bookings.

Victoria profited from the situation and regained the lead with 11 minutes to go thanks to a Kenneth Mercieca goal.

But, the Youngsters were not demoralised and their efforts were rewarded six minutes from time when a Simoncic free-kick took a deflection off Saviour Attard and into the net.

The match dragged into extra-time. Victoria were again denied by Grima’s fine saves and on 107 minutes they were reduced to ten players when Mercieca was sent off for retaliation.

Nadur scored the goal that decided the issue on 111 minutes when the referee awarded them a penalty for a foul by Nwankwo on Stojanovic.

Kalin Ganchev converted from the spot for a 4-3 win and a place in the next round.
