This weekend, the RMYC are organising the IIG Round the Islands Race.
With an estimated course length of approximately 100 nautical miles, this is by no means an easy race. Depending on wind conditions and strength, one can expect the fleet to spend most of the day rounding the Maltese archipelago and taking in the majestic sights of the steep cliffs and azure waters of Malta and its islands.
The course takes sailors south towards Marsaxlokk, rounding Filfla, through the south Comino channel, rounding Gozo, and heading back to Filfla and finishing at the RMYC in Ta’ Xbiex.
The Race Committee have also included a double-handed class besides the normal fully-crewed category in this race which makes the event even more challenging for those wishing to endure a full-day of racing with just two people on board.
This is by far the longest local race the RMYC have on their sailing calendar and hope to build on it with the inaugural IIG Bank sponsorship this year.
The race will start from the waters opposite the RMYC today at 9 a.m. with the prize-giving ceremony scheduled for June 10 at the club.
