Further to my letter ‘The Church – a solution’, (The Sunday Times of Malta, August 31), I would like to add a number of points.
Church leaders serving two four-year terms in office would enable promising young priests the possibility of taking up senior posts within the Church.
A term limit would eradicate burnout among the clergy and would present the faithful with new faces, which is important.
Pope Benedict, a truly humble person, was willing to retire early, and made way for God to send us Pope Francis.
Pope Benedict’s resignation opened the doors to new ways of thinking in the Church.
The clergy mentioned in last week’s letter are, of course, invited to comment.
