The government recently bought new ‘hot box’ equipment to enable its workers to use hot asphalt to patch roads, gradually replacing the cold asphalt that used to come undone after just a few days.
Once a framework agreement is reached, major patching works will go ahead at prices agreed with the Chamber of Commerce, including higher percentages for night works.
Answering a parliamentary question by Opposition MP Toni Bezzina, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said Transport Malta normally left regular cold asphalt patching on arterial and distributor roads for the weekends. Hot asphalt was used for major patching.
