The Institute of Health and Safety (IHS) is about to become the only accredited centre in Malta for the NEBOSH International Technical Certificate in Oil and Gas Operational Safety.
The National Examining Board in Occupational Safety and Health is the world’s leading awarding body for courses in occupational health and safety. The institute has a long-standing relationship with the UK-based organisation and is accredited to run the International General Certificate, the National Certificate in Environmental Management and the Health and Safety at Work Award.
The addition of the Oil and Gas Certificate to the IHS portfolio of NEBOSH courses is seen as an important step forward and is expected to appeal to clients both at home and overseas.
The new qualification is aimed at anyone who works in the oil and gas industry and connected industries. These are hazardous environments, and managers, supervisors, off-shore and on-shore workers needing specialist skills and knowledge in order to fulfil their health and safety responsibilities. Anyone awarded the Oil and Gas Certificate will have their career prospects greatly enhanced, whether they already work in the industry or if they are trying to move into it.
The weeklong course covers topics such as oil and gas hazards, hydrocarbon process safety, fire protection and emergency response, and logistics and transport operations.
At the end of the tuition period, candidates are assessed by a written examination.
The first course in Malta is planned for November.
