Arthur Galea Salomone has been appointed the president of the Cana Movement.

The appointment of Dr Galea Salomone, who headed the anti-divorce campaign before a national referendum, was announced by Archbishop Paul Cremona during Cana’s annual Christmas gathering.

Dr Galea Salomone is a lawyer by profession and is the chairman of the Stock Exchange. He succeeds Anna Maria Vella who held the post for seven years.

In a brief statement, Dr Galea Salomone said the Cana Movement had played a very important role in strengthening marriages and families.

“Cana brings to mind a wedding that faced a difficulty which, humanly speaking was hard to overcome. Many marriages and families are today facing difficulties that sometimes appear impossible to resolve.

“The role of the Cana Movement is becoming increasingly crucial in these particularly challenging times but, in the true spirit of Cana, with perseverance, good will and Divine help, no challenge or problem is insuperable,” he said.
