Tarxien Rainbows will have a new set of foreign players for the upcoming Premier League season after they decided against retaining any of the overseas players they had on their books last term, including prolific goalscorer Daniel Mariano Bueno.

The Rainbows, who played in the Championship Pool for the first time in 2012-13, decided to part ways with Brazilian trio Leandro, Marco Tulio and Andrezinho along with Serbian defender Branislav Timotic.

But, Tarxien tried to retain the services of Bueno and started contract negotiations with the Brazilian striker. However, a deal failed to materialise due to the player’s excessive demands.

Bueno also attracted interest from other top clubs in Malta, with Valletta, Hibernians and Sliema Wanderers all tabling offers for the 6ft-1 forward, who scored 20 goals in the league last season.

None of the offers, however, were deemed acceptable by the Rainbows, thus leaving the 30-year-old with no options but to seek a move away from the Maltese league after a five-year spell with the Blues.

Tarxien, meanwhile, are now in the process of finalising plans for the new season and wrapped up deals for three new Brazilian players.

Striker Ronaille Calheira has penned a one-year contract along with midfielders Everton and Fernando Lopez.

Coach Clive Mizzi has also handed a contract to one of his former players, midfielder Marko Potezica. The Serb’s career is back on track after serving a nine-month doping suspension following a spell with Mqabba.

The Rainbows are currently giving a trial to Italian striker Ariel Laudisi, who last season was on the books of Sliema Wanderers, and Brazilian winger Cinhio.

After successfully finalising a move for Luca Martinelli and Miguel Ciantar, Tarxien are now close to complete the signing for another Sliema player, defender Josef Mifsud.

Elsewhere, Rabat Ajax have confirmed the acquisition of two new overseas players – Montenegro goalkeeper Pavle Velimirovic and Spanish midfielder Dani Pelaez.

Both players signed a one-year deal after completing their trial period with participation in the pre-season tournament, the AME Cup.

Meanwhile, the Magpies have also concluded talks to sign Jonathan Bajada from Mosta.

Bajada, a former Malta U-21 midfielder, joins Rabat on a one-year loan deal.
