A meeting will be held on June 30 at 6 p.m. on the Quadrangle in front of Student House on theUniversity campus for prospective students in a new undergraduate three-year degree programme – B.Sc. Microelectronics and Embedded Systems.
The course is being launched by the University’s Department of Micro and Nanoelectronics, together with the Department of Communications and Computer Engineering.
The course will include modules in hardware design skills, including micro-sensor design, on-chip analogue signal processing circuitry, embedded processing design and wireless transmission. These will be complemented with units in programming, signal processing and related engineering algorithms and communications technology.
The course will enable students to have a holistic view of embeddable, smart microsystems, starting from their design to their adoption for the development of larger, complex systems.
The degree can be followedby a two-year Masters taught course in microelectronics and microsystems.
There has been a major growth the integrated circuit industry together with embedded systems over the past years, particularly with the emergence of mobile devices, biomedical portable devices, gaming and embedded systems.
A number of companies in Malta have also starting their own research and design activities in the implementation of both integrated circuitry and embedded systems, creating demand for qualifiedspecialists in these areas.
