Former England assistant coach Gary Neville has reacted angrily to a report that his working relationship with Roy Hodgson deteriorated during Euro 2016.

The Observer on Sunday claimed Neville and Hodgson had a series of disagreements during the tournament, which ended for England with an embarrassing last-16 loss to Iceland.

The report states Hodgson’s training methods were one source of the disagreements, while players were confused by messages over tactics and positional play.

One source told the newspaper that the players bonded well during the tournament, but there was friction between the coaches.

The Observer on Sunday makes it clear that there is respect between the parties, but that Neville and goalkeeping coach Dave Watson had disagreements with Hodgson.

Referencing the article on Twitter, Neville wrote: “This is absolute b*******! Apology? Removal of the article? Let me know!”

Hodgson’s contract was due to expire after Euro 2016 and he quit immediately after the loss to Iceland, knowing an extension would not be forthcoming.

Former England defender Neville and fellow assistant Ray Lewington also left their roles.
