A catering establishment based in Gżira was yesterday ordered to stop using noisy machinery that was bothering neighbours.

Mr Justice Joseph Zammit McKeon, sitting in the First Hall of the Civil Court, ruled against Paparukei Catering Ltd following an application filed by Charles and Ġemma Gruppetta, Gordon and Ingrid Axiaq and Johan and Fabianne Agius.

The applicants live in a block of flats on The Strand close to the Paparukei’s confectionery. They complained that equipment used was very noisy, was a nuisance to them and interrupted their rest.

A court-appointed technical expert concluded that the machinery, which consisted in refrigeration with outlets adjacent to the complainants’ property, was causing inconvenience because of noise and vibrations.

The company was ordered to immediately stop making use of the machinery.
