The Nationalist Party has lambasted Labour leader Joseph Muscat for failing to take action against Cospicua mayor Joe Scerri, 10 days after he was convicted of a criminal offence.
The PN said that instead of kicking him out of the party, Dr Muscat was allowing Mr Scerri to hang on to power.
Had he been a serious politician, it said, Dr Muscat would have asked for his immediate resignation.
The PN said it was not the first time Labour had protected people who were charged with criminal offences.
