I presume that whoever thought out the one-way system in central Sliema envisaged that cars would go down High Street and Amery Street to the bottom and then turn left to go up George Borg Olivier Street if they need to go in that direction.

However, what is happening is that many are turning down Stella Maris Street and left into Howard Street. They are not helped by the fact that there is a building site at the lower end of Stella Maris, so it is often blocked by trucks, cement mixers and other heavy vehicles, giving the drivers no choice.

This means that Howard Street, situated between Amery Street and George Borg Olivier Street, is a fairly major thoroughfare at the moment.

And, to top it all, many have not noticed the ‘no right turn’ or ‘no entry’ signs, so they are still going down Borg Olivier Street.
