Nadur Youngsters and SK Victoria Wanderers kept the pace with leaders Xewkija Tigers in the Gozo FA Division One following victories over Oratory Youths and Kerċem Ajax respectively.

Nadur failed to produce their best but still had the better of Oratory by the odd goal in three.

The champions struggled to impose themselves and Oratory keeper Elliot Fenech was only tested with shots from outside his box.

Nadur, however, kept their composure to open the scoring midway through the first half with a fine strike by Josef Buttigieg.

Oratory enjoyed a good start after the break but Andrea Debrincat and Antoine Camilleri hit badly from a good position as Nadur went close to a second goal but a header from Charles Hili ended just wide.

Oratory grew in stature as the minutes ticked away and levelled the scores late on with a superb goal from Johann Attard who beat keeper Mark Grima with a scor-ching shot from an angle.

But the Youngsters managed to clinch victory with a goal in stoppage time.

Substitute Christian Debono saw his shot stopped by the upright and Milos Stojanovic was at the right place to hit home with a simple tap-in.

In another match from the top flight, SK Victoria Wanderers scored two goals in stoppage time to turn defeat into a dramatic 3-2 win.

Kerċem were left to rue their ill-luck. They are now watching over their shoulders as Victoria Hotspurs will be challenging them hard for a place in the play-offs.

For this match, the Wanderers had Daniel Bogdanovic marking his debut with a goal and an assist that led to his team’s winner.

The Ajax opened the scoring on 14 minutes when Malcolm Vella was floored in the box by Simon Sultana. Joseph Chetcuti scored from the spot.

Kerċem’s Chetcuti blasted wide with an open goal at his mercy but just before half-time the score became 2-0 when Mario Mifsud hit home from just inside the box.

The Wanderers showed more commitment after the break and reduced the deficit on 56 minutes when the referee awarded them a penalty for a Petar Kyumyurdzhiev handball inside the box. Bogdanovic converted from the spot.

Kerċem did not lose their composure though and could have re-established their two-goal lead but Malcolm Vella’s shot was blocked by keeper Simon Agius.

An attempt by Mario Mifsud was cleared off the line by substitute John Paul Grima.

The Wanderers looked doomed to their fourth defeat this season but in the first minute of added time, Fernando Giarrizzo netted directly from a corner.

Then, two minutes later, Bogdanovic dashed down the right flank and delivered a perfect ball to Eric Nwankwo who fired into an empty net.

On Wednesday, Victoria Hotspurs beat strugglers Munxar Falcons 3-0 in a match that was postponed due to bad weather last week.

The Citizens are now favourites to join the top three teams in the play-offs.

Without Saturday Nanapere, missing due to suspension, the Hotspurs paved the way to the victory with a goal by Dylan Bellotti on 14 minutes .

They controlled play for most of the match, scoring a second through newcomer Glenn Bonello (ex-Żurrieq) and Michael Bezzina making it 3-0 seven minutes from time.

Division Two

Għajnsielem beat Żebbuġ Rovers3-1 to go top of the standings, albeit having played a match more than the second-placed St Lawrence Spurs.

Rovers opened the scoring on 27 minutes through newcomer Pedro Adame Calderon but the Blacks staged a strong reaction.

They levelled before half-time through Robert Grima.

Għajnsielem turned the result in their favour on 52 minutes with a Charlon Tabone goal as Żebbuġ were reduced to ten men after keeper Baskal Saliba’s sending-off for a foul outside his box.

From the free-kick Joseph Attard made it 3-1 to seal Għajnsielem’s victory.

Sannat Lions overwhelmed Qala Saints 4-0 in a match that was replayed following the bad weather that hit the island last week.

Fernando De Andrade scored three goals for the Lions with the other coming from Fabian Xuereb.
