Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has refuted suggestions that his job is in jeopardy as speculation grows that the Serie A giants will sack him if he fails to win the scudetto.
The Rossoneri are reeling after a frustrating week in which they fell behind Juventus in the Serie A title race and were ousted by Barcelona in the Champions League.
“I absolutely do not feel at risk,” Allegri told reporters after the 2-1 home defeat to Fiorentina on Saturday.
“Certain evaluations are down to the club and will only be made at the end of the season. I prefer to focus on what we have to do right now.”
Allegri hit out at the media and the chasing pack after the shock loss to Fiorentina left them one point behind Juventus with seven games left.
“I realised that many, let’s say the vast majority, couldn’t wait for Milan to lose.
“There, it happened. Now we will move forward,” Allegri observed.
“Nobody expected this defeat, not even us, but we have the character to get back on our feet. It can happen in a season.
“Don’t forget we had a long run-up to go four points clear of Juventus, so you do pay for this strain.
“It’s not over yet, though.”
