A festival of music and dance, entitled ‘Festa Musika – La Fête de la Musique’, will be held on a main stage in upper Merchants Street, Valletta, (by the Auberge D’Italie) on Tuesday, the longest day of the year, at 6.30 p.m.

The day chosen for the Fete De La Musique coincides with similar festivals held all over the world. This annual event originated in France in 1981.

The morning programme will include the Armed Forces of Malta Band at 9.45 a.m. and the Police Band at 11.15 a.m. There will also be roving musicians in various streets.

Taking part in the evening festival will be Chris and Moira, Mark Spiteri Lucas Band, Xirka Rock, Ira Losco and Matthieu Chédid, who is a well-known multi-instrumentalist.

The festival is being organised by the Parliamentary Secre-tariat for Culture, the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, the Malta Tourism Authority and the French embassy. For more information call the Tourist Information Office on 2291 5440/1, e-mail: info@visitmalta.com.
