The Friends of the National Archives of Malta, who bought the Leli Muscat folk music collection in 2012 and started the digitisation of 270 good quality tape reels and 27 reels which are cut or damaged, reached an agreement with national archivist Charles Farrugia to continue with the project.

This is being made possible following the financial support provided by Education Minister Evarist Bartolo. Once all the reels are digitised the project progresses to restoration.

This collection, which spans 20 years of cultural, social and anthropological history, helps us understand life in Malta and in the village – in the bars, pubs and other venues – between 1960 and 1980.

The National Archives of Malta and the Friends of the National Archives are envisaging that the project will be finalised and launched in December. It will bring to light more aspects of our cultural heritage.

Donations towards this project can be made by cheque payable to the Friends of the National Archives. It can be sent by post to the National Archives of Malta, Main Office, Hospital Street, Rabat RBT 1043.

FNAM membership fees also contribute to the financing of this project. Those interested in becoming members may down-load an application form from www.fnamalta.org.
