While the Aquatic Sport Association (ASA) was holding the third Time Trials of the season at Tal-Qroqq last weekend, young swimmer Neil Muscat was racing in The Netherlands at the Amsterdam Swim Cup.

His journey to the Dutch capital turned out to be a fruitful one.

In fact, the young Neptunes swimmer clocked 28.10 seconds in the 50 metres back, a new Group ‘C’ record which clipped 0.16 seconds off his previous mark set in June this year.

Muscat obtained the age group record and with it qualification for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games when swimming in the 100-metre back-stroke event.

Before the race he had obtained permission from the meet organisers to register a split time on the 50-metre mark. He then cruised to a finish.

The Youth Olympic Games are scheduled to be held in Nanjing, China, next August.
