Urging voters to pass judgement on his performance, Joseph Muscat yesterday told supporters in Fgura he had nothing to fear.

Addressing a sizeable crowd that burst into applause on several occasions, the Prime Minister said nobody could doubt the government’s will to change things.

“You can doubt our methods at times but you cannot doubt our genuineness,” he said, adding that he was nothing without the trust people had placed in him.

To chants of “Joseph, Joseph”, the Prime Minister said that on Saturday he expected voters to judge him.

“I have nothing to fear unlike the Opposition leader,” he told supporters as he listed the government’s achievements including free childcare, the VAT refund on car registration, the lowering of income tax and a drop in electricity bills.

Dr Muscat urged people to give a show of support to the government, insisting that many who were having second doubts about voting had decided otherwise.

“I am proud of living this moment because history books will describe this period as an era of change,” he said.

Acknowledging the problems that still plague the health sector, Dr Muscat said it would be reformed, just as Enemalta was being turned around.

In a passionate plea, Dr Muscat said it hurt him to see unemployed young people without skills that made it impossible for them to find a decent job. Fighting precarious employment was the next priority, he added.

But he also hit out at laziness, insisting the government will come down hard on those who refused to work.

He also lauded the self-employed and business people who risked their money to invest in a project.

“Ours is not a movement built on envy; we need to have these people with us because they create wealth and jobs,” he said.
