The first ASA swimming time trials of the new cycle, held on Saturday at the National Pool, Tal-Qroqq, yielded two records both registered by Neptunes WPSC swimmers, and a spate of encouraging results by a number of youngsters.

The prodigious Neil Muscat clocked 56.47 seconds in the 100 free to clip 0.52 seconds off the old group C mark set by Matthew Zammit in October 2010.

For a 15-year-old, Muscat’s time compares favourably with those set by some of the best overseas swimmers and augurs well for this versatile lad who now holds 21 age-group national marks in all four strokes.

Another emerging talent is Sarah Demicoli who also broke new ground in the 200 butterfly when swimming the distance in 2:46.47. This time bettered her own group B limit set last July by 0.61 seconds.
