The 2012/13 BOV Division One championship gets underway this evening with the opening two fixtures at the Centenary Stadium.

Mqabba and St Andrew’s will set the ball rolling at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the clash from the south between Birżebbuġa St Peter’s and Żejtun Corinthians.

As has been the norm in the last few years, the Division One has always turned out to be a balanced championship and given the number of transfer dealings completed by the majority of the 12 teams another tight campaign is in the offing.

Vittoriosa, Żejtun, Pietà, Naxxar and Gżira are being touted as the leading challengers for the two promotion berths while Marsaxlokk and Mqabba, relegated from the Premier League last season, will no doubt be keen for a quick return among the big boys.

Newly-promoted Gudja, along with Birżebbuġa, Dingli, St Andrew’s and Lija, will have their minds set on retaining their place in the division as primary goal.
