They made an immediate impact on the local music scene last year with the gritty pop of their Indecisive single, even picking up a Best Newcomer Award at last year’s Bay Music Awards for their debut outing.

A year or so later, the five young ladies in Cryptic Street are back with their sophomore offering – a brand new single called Retrospect, that seems to capture both their grasp of sounds from a past much older than their collective age as well as their way of rewiring those same sounds into something for the here and now.

Flaunting a neo-1980s vibe, the new single is the result of myriad influences – all quite different – that have impacted the band during the past year. From Orwellian literature to Lana del Rey by way of Jim Morrison’s poetry – and above all, some of their own experiences – Retrospect brings all of this together in the space of four minutes. The end result is markedly different from their debut single on many levels.

Retrospect was produced, mastered and mixed by Peter Borg at Railway Studios. A music video for the single under the direction of Mauro D’Amato is currently also in production.
