A Ford Mustang with star quality may well be gone in 60 seconds when it goes under the hammer.

The original 1967 GT Fast back Eleanor, perhaps the most famous of all Mustang models, has undergone more than 2,000 hours of work to restore it to its former glory.

It is the Shelby GT500 that starred in the 1974 B-film Gone In 60 Seconds, which was remade in 2000 and starred Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie.

Fast and furious bidding is expected for the car, in pepper grey metallic paint with a black stripe, and petrol-heads may well buck the current recession and meet the estimated £70,000 to £90,000 auction price of the car.

The sale will be held at Silverstone over the Walter Hayes Festival Trophy over the coming weekend, the traditional end of season race meeting.

Nick Whale, managing director at Silverstone Auctions, said: “We are very excited to be hosting The Walter Hayes Sale at the home of British motor racing. Interest has already been strong and we’re looking to build on the success we enjoyed at our previous auction where we sold cars totalling £1.5 million.”

Silverstone Auctions are also predicting strong bidding for a rare Zagato-bodied 1960 Lancia Flaminia Sport with an estimated price of between £100,000 and £125,000, and a right-hand drive 1958 Jaguar XK150 S 3.4 Roadster, one of just 44 built and guided at £95,000 to £105,000.
