The Times of Malta tried to spin a story about Transport Malta’s move to A3 towers (‘Enforcement notice for TM’, October 5). It tried to link unrelated events in an article filled with partial or outright misleading information, with dubious intentions.

The journalist working on the story sent questions about worker conditions and wrote a story about an enforcement order.  He did not ask Transport Malta about the enforcement order.

These are the facts.

Transport Malta chose A3 towers following a request for proposals that followed the established rules of procurement. The report in question merely states that the A3 towers offer was not the cheapest.  It was the cheapest compliant offer.

The paper seems to be implying some wrongdoing on Transport Malta’s part.  That is deceitful.  It tries to implicate Robert Borg in its fictional wrongdoing when the latter was in no way involved in the adjudication process that was guided throughout by the Department of Contracts.

The Times of Malta was right in stating that the Planning Authority issued an enforcement notice. It states correctly that the notice was about external air-condition units.  The notice has nothing whatsoever to do with the working conditions or with the inappropriateness of the building, as the paper tries to imply. Moreover, if the newspaper asked about the enforcement notice, we would have let it know that all issues pointed out by the PA have been rectified or will be in the coming days.

The paper quotes residents in saying that the place was meant to be residential. In fact, the offices had and still have a commercial permit.

Transport Malta moved to the A3 towers to provide a better customer experience for our clients and better working conditions for our employees. Those who have been to the buildings in Floriana and then to the A3 towers will testify to the marked improvement.

I again attaching photos of the old building that this newspaper has failed to reproduce.
