DJ Banana, who also presents a motoring programme on TV, has been banned from driving for three months after he slightly injured a local warden.

Mario Mifsud, 49, from Pembroke, a radio host and the presenter of Motordrome on Smash TV, was conditionally discharged after he got into a fight with the warden for taking a photo of her.

Mr Mifsud admitted to violently resisting the orders of local wardens Alicia Ciancio and Maria Mifsud on Monday afternoon. He also admitted to driving at speed and relapsing.

His lawyers, Yanika Bugeja and Dean Hili, said he was stopped by the wardens and fined for talking on his mobile phone while driving, which he accepted.

She took offence to being photographed

He took a photo of Ms Ciancio and drove off. She took offence to being photographed and, together with Ms Mifsud, they followed him. When they caught up with him, they stopped him and demanded he delete the photo. He refused and sped away, hitting Ms Ciancio’s arm, they said. The lawyers said that the warden was gesticulating when she was hit.

Police Inspector Spiridione Zammit said that while he agreed with the version given by the lawyers, the point at which Ms Ciancio was injured was being contested.

Magistrate Edwina Grima conditionally discharged Mr Mifsud for two years and banned him from driving for three months.

When judgment was handed down, Mr Mifsud pleaded for clemency saying he had a son with special needs and needed to take him to school and he was the only person who could do so.

The magistrate said her decision was final, pointing out that Mr Mifsud had admitted to the charges.
