The 17-year-old mother of baby Roselana who drowned in a bathtub last month was granted bail and will be staying at her aunt’s house.

As part of the bail conditions, she will not be able to leave the house before 8am and will have to be indoors by 11pm

The mother was bound by a personal guarantee of €20,000 but no monetary deposit was demanded by the court.

Since the tragic incident the young woman had been staying at Mount Carmel Hospital and was never detained in prison. She will now be living with her aunt in Kirkop.

As part of the bail conditions she will not be able to leave the house before 8am and will have to be indoors by 11pm.

She will also have to sign the bail book twice a week at the local police station.

The teenager is charged with the involuntary homicide of her nine-month-old daughter in Cospicua whom she allegedly left unattended in the bath on August 31.

Roselana was certified dead at Mater Dei Hospital and an autopsy concluded the baby had drowned.

During a sitting on Monday, Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit ruled that there was enough evidence for the indictment of the young mother.

The case is being heard behind closed doors at the request of the defence.

The mother’s defence lawyers, Michael and Lucio Sciriha and Mark Montalto, argued that their client was a minor and should be protected by the courts.
