Mosta preserved their perfect record in the BOV Division One when they came back from a goal down to beat Mġarr United 5-1 and go three points clear at the top of the standings.

Although Kenneth Costantino’s Blues started favourites to win this match, they still did not underestimate the improving Mġarr girls who are showing great promise this season and also won their opening two matches.

Mġarr, in fact, surged ahead on 38 minutes when they were awarded a penalty which was converted by Antoinette Sammut.

Stung by this setback, Mosta soon clicked into gear and drew level five minutes later from another penalty, scored by Dorianne Theuma.

Mosta showed their true title credentials after the break.

Theuma struck again on 55 minutes before Shona Zammit made it 3-1, 12 minutes later.

Mġarr were unable to keep up with the pace and conceded two other goals when substitute Natasha Pace (75) and Rachel Nolan (78) were on the right spot to make Mosta’s victory more pronounced.

The Blues are the only un-beaten side in Division One.

In another match, Birkirkara got back on track after their upset to Mosta by beating Hibs 3-1.

The Stripes built an early two-goal cushion, following goals from Gabriella Zahra and the in-form Rachel Cuschieri.

Hibs looked better after the break and pulled one back through Rodianne Borg.

However, midfielder Cuschieri dashed the Paolites’ hopes with a third Stripes’ goal 10 minutes from time.
