I refer to the item in the On the Dot column entitled Mosta Health Hazard (November 4).

Mosta local council had informed Mepa about this site and the danger it posed to residents from as early as September 2009 in an e-mail to then chairman Austin Walker.

In April 2012, the present mayor, Shirley Farrugia, spoke to both the owner of the site and his architect on the phone, advising them to provide adequate curtailment of the site and to restore the damaged pavement to its original condition.

On October 10, 2013, the mayor sent an e-mail with the appropriate site plans and photos of this and various other sites in our locality to Alex Borg, enforcement director at Mepa, and copied to Johann Buttigieg, the new Mepa CEO.

All our endeavours have proved futile and it is hoped that now that an article has appeared in this newspaper, the people responsible at Mepa will take the necessary actions to remove this eyesore from our city square.
