Njongo Priso has paid a hefty price for his misdemeanour in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Gżira United as the Mosta winger was yesterday hit with a four-match ban by the Malta FA Disciplinary Commissioner.
Apart from receiving a one-match ban for four yellow cards, Priso was given an additional three-match suspension for insulting referee Sandro Spiteri after he had booked the Cameroonian for pushing an opponent.
Spiteri also showed Priso a straight red card.
Priso’s lengthy ban is a further blow for strugglers Mosta who this week parted ways with coach Ivan Zammit after a disappointing run of results.
The Blues, second from bottom on nine points, face Birkirkara on Sunday.
Four other Premier League players were yesterday handed a one-match ban for four yellow cards.
Balzan defender Samir Arab will miss the top-of-the-table clash with Hibernians while Floriana winger Amadou Samb has been ruled out of the derby against Valletta, both games being played this Saturday.
Gżira United will be without key defender Souleymane Diamoutene for their clash with fellow relegation strugglers Pembroke Athleta on Sunday while Tarxien Rainbows midfielder Sergio Fernandez Prendes will sit out the match against Ħamrun Spartans, also on Sunday.
The Spartans must make do without two key defenders, Luis Vergara and Raphael, after both saw red in the 3-1 defeat to St Andrews last weekend.
However, their suspension is expected to be confirmed tomorrow when the MFA Disciplinary Commissioner issues further sanctions in relation to two other games played last weekend, Ħamrun-St Andrews and Hibernians-Pembroke Athleta.
