Malta’s Demo EV project for the introduction of electric vehicles was one of the projects found to be in difficulty on the changeover of power.

But following government intervention it had caught up rapidly with the original projections and the points were continuing to increase, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi told Toni Bezzina (PN).

The Labour government had respected the list of volunteers to drive electric vehicles, raised by the outgoing administration, and issued a new call to enhance participation by individuals and NGOs.

Mr Bezzina had asked about the placement of 50 vehicle charging points in various localities, as per the previous government’s consultations with local councils.

Mr Mizzi said “market pressures” were part of the reason for the project’s slowdown.

Alternative charging points that were still technically viable had also had to be found after individuals or local councils had complained about the initial location proposals.
