The number of traffic accidents last year increased by nearly four per cent over 2010, according to national statistics.
More than 14,250 traffic accidents were registered. Most of these – 38.2 per cent – took place in the Northern Harbour district.
The largest number of traffic accidents, 921 cases, occurred in Birkirkara.
Out of a total of 1,577 people who suffered injuries in traffic accidents, 17 were fatal. Around 75 per cent of the casualties were caused by car accidents, while 14 per cent by motorcycles.
