More than 100 people have confirmed their attendance at a seminar on integrated tax planning and wealth management held by wealth management group Blevins Franks at the Hilton Malta on Tuesday morning.

Attendees include expatriates, professionals, tax experts and local investors, Colin Vickers, Blevins Franks’ director, business development, told The Times Business.

Integrated tax planning which combines tax advice and investment management is relatively unique as most clients normally sought the advice of separate professionals for each, he said.

Topical issues facing investors in many jurisdictions include rising tax rates as a result of the austerity measures introduced and the increased tax burden from aging populations across the developed world coupled with low interest rates and their impact on retired investors, Mr Vickers added.

On Tuesday, chief executive David Franks will focus on residency rules and tax in Malta and healthcare issues.

Mr Vickers himself will talk about effective tax planning strategies for people who already are, or are considering becoming, tax resident in Malta and those who will potentially return to their country of origin in the future.

He explained the event is of particular interest to people who have assets of at least €500,000 or investible assets of €200,000 or more, who are overseas nationals, either living or planning to relocate to Malta.

Maltese who have lived and worked abroad and are returning to the island or Maltese private clients interested in a wider range of investment opportunities will also benefit from information shared at the event.

The seminar will focus primarily on the local jurisdiction but Mr Vickers said consideration will be given to attendees’ originating jurisdiction or where they are planning to return to.

Blevins Franks has been headquartered in Malta since 1998 and is one of the largest trust companies regulated here. It has an 85-strong team based in Mrieħel and has offices throughout the UK and Europe. It provides tax advisory, investment, trust and corporate services to clients resident in France, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Canada and Singapore, and is looking to expand its local market.

Attendance at Tuesday’s event may be registered online at www.blevinsfranks.com.
