Like John C. Navarro I went to see the exhibition of photographs at the British High Commission. Some depicted the Queen being greeted by Maltese schoolchildren on the Granaries, in Floriana. I was present with my Paola primary schoolmates on that day. As the Queen rode by, we were encouraged to sing a song that we had been taught previously. Unfortunately, I can only remember the first two lines and the ending:
“True is the song of the bird
“And sweet is the gift of the rose…
“From the hearts of the children who meet
“This day our sovereign to greet.”
I wonder whether any readers can recall the full text, the anme of the author of the music and/or lyrics and the exact date when this event took place.
