More than 60,000 meals were distributed to 350 families since January as part of the Meals on Wheels service.
The number of distributed meals rose by 40 per cent over 11 years. In 2000, about 50,000 meals were prepared, while a record 90,000 meals were distributed last year.
The service is provided by the Department of the Elderly and the Maltese Cross Corps.
Meals are distributed daily at about noon and consist of a starter, main course, sandwich, salad and dessert.
The food is cooked at St Vincent de Paul Complex.
