Entertainer Emanuel Balzan, known as Tristan B, has been jailed for nine years after he was found guilty of defrauding a Gozitan farmer of €750,000.

The case dates back to 2009 when Joseph Sultana said he had lent money to Mr Balzan after having been falsely promised that the funds would be returned along with investments and access to agricultural aid.

This sentence extends another of two-and-a-half years, handed down in May, after Mr Balzan admitted to defrauding six people and two companies of thousands of euro.

He was already in prison serving another nine-month term for fraud.

Five months earlier, in January, he was jailed for three-and-a-half years after he admitted to defrauding a businessman of €9,000.
