Green open spaces are needed in congested areas and Balzan is no exception. The fact remains that the number of vacant properties is increasing in Malta. The new census may identify up to 70,000 vacant properties, making the threat of overdevelopment ever more serious. In such a small locality as Balzan, green open spaces are even more important. Local councils can achieve a lot in this regard if they work closely with the residents and local NGOs.

As an elected councillor on behalf of Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party I will ensure that the public does not suffer the resulting deterioration in the environment due to unsustainable development. Indeed, defending open spaces is one of the pillars in the electoral manifesto of AD.

Preserving Balzan’s heritage is crucial, and who better to do this than a political party which has no ties with the powerful construction lobby? It is high time to start respecting the locality’s motto Hortibus Undique Septa (surrounded by gardens) and safeguard Balzan’s green areas.
