At Portomaso, after the development application was refused in 2012 and following the last election, the government allowed works to go ahead on the construction of apartments in the last open space at the end of Spinola Road. This is the only site where the Spinola Road residents could go for a stroll in a green site. Some persons remarked that it was payback time for the developers.

The site is now excavated right down to sea level and almost up to the coastline, leaving hardly any access for the public to the sea. In fact, the other day, when the winds blew strong the waves went right over the remaining strip of coast and filled the construction site with sea water, forming a premature lagoon. The excavation equipment was flooded and mud and dust were carried into the Portomaso marina and into the sea.

The residents of the new apartments will surely have a wonderful marine atmosphere around their lagoon, however, I would suggest they keep their boots handy.
