The 11th ASA Age Group Swim Meet held at the National Pool, Tal-Qroqq, on Saturday and which was the last of this calendar year, was marked by five national age-group records. These came from two boys and two girls.
Julian Harding, of Neptunes, stole the show with two records in Group D.
He covered the 50 butterfly in an excellent 26.35 seconds to shave 0.02 seconds off Andrew Chetcuti’s 2009 mark. He then broke the category’s record in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 30.79 to erase his own limit of 31.30 set last July.
Neil Muscat, another Neptunes lad, was the usual swimmer to figure among the records. His 29.07 in the 50 metres backstroke Group C was 0.09 seconds faster than his own limit registered in July.
Meanwhile, Kristina Fino improved Amy Micallef’s 2010 Group B record in the 50 butterfly when registering 32.96, an improvement of 0.66 seconds.
The other new limit came in the 50 metres breaststroke courtesy of Pia Grech in Group D. Her time of 35.80 bettered that of Stephanie Shranz which has stood for almost 15 years, by 0.10 seconds.
