The monti stands that have met with widespread disapproval cost €976 each to make at the government garage, Small Enterprises Minister Chris Cardona told Robert Arrigo (PN) in reply to a parliamentary question.

The minister said the relocation of the monti market to Ordnance Street in Valletta had been entrusted to a committee for the enhancement of markets. Committee members receive no remuneration for their services.

Answering a supplementary question by David Agius (PN), Dr Cardona said the discarded stands could either be upgraded or used for other purposes, because they were still functional and practical.
