A village of medium size by Gozitan standards, a stone’s throw away from Victoria, yet boasting of organising two annual village feasts.

The feast in honour of St Gregory the Great is held in the second week of March while another in honour of Our Lady of Succour takes place on the second weekend of July.

Locals pride themselves on both feasts and strive hard to make them an expression of their religious beliefs. Church service is very well attended. Celebrations inspire the congregation with Christian love and devotion to the saint or, as in the case of last weekend, to Our Lady.

The parish priest makes a lot of effort to involve the community in liturgical celebrations. Different members of the clergy from all over Gozo who preside over Church celebrations make the event more significant and appealing.

Needless to mention that street celebrations create the proper atmosphere of a traditional village feast. Street décor consisting of lighting and ornamental artefacts is one of a kind. Band marches by St Gregory Band and other guest bands set the tone from the early weekend for a feast never to forget. Likewise, the fireworks display held in moderation creates a nuisance to none but rather adds to the attraction.

Good coordination and cooperation between the organisers is the key to success. Words of praise by one and all who attend the feasts, in this case, speak louder than petards.
