Another week full of cricket with five games played, three involving Marsa CC.

First, the locals took on returning team Elmdon from England, who had just beaten SGS Holland. This was Elmdon’s second tour to the islands, their first was just over a year ago.

Dave Borg opened the batting in style for Marsa, hitting 68 runs from 50 balls including five 4s and three 6s along the way. Andy Naudi added a quick 52 from 25 balls which included three 6s and three 4s.

Marsa totalled a very reasonable 152 runs from their 20 overs as D. Morgan and S. Mohammed were the only wicket-takers for Elmdon who in reply could only muster 84 runs.

The English team are still without a win against the locals.

In midweek, Marsa played the second game against SGS Holland.

Again, they batted first but this time had it not been for John Grima’s 43, the final score of 99 runs would have been much worse.

SGS Holland had a poor start in the run chase which gave Marsa some hope. In fact, the visitors lost six wickets for 42 runs. But, then, in came R.V.D. Berg (37) and P.V. Noord (27) who led the team to a fine win to square the series.

On Sunday, Marsa took Saracens, another returning team who beat SGS Holland the day before.

Saracens’ last tour was in 2007.

The visitors batted first in this encounter and Marsa succeeded in bowling them out for 106 despite conceding 44 extras.

With the battling line-up deployed, Marsa were expected to win this one but M. Bigby had other ideas and took an impressive six wickets which destroyed the locals.

For Marsa, Andy Naudi top-scored with 18 runs and John Rusher 11.

Saracens are still unbeaten against the Maltese team.

This weekend, Marsa take on Slovenian side Mezica in a two-game series.
